Design & built

The Vizio 40-inch D-Series Smart TV offers an impressive combination of size, performance, and smart features. With a sleek and modern design, this television fits well into any living room or bedroom setup.

Display

The picture is vibrant and clear, colors are accurate, and the full-array backlight ensures that the TV is evenly lit. Like most new TVs, the backlight gets nice and bright and can be dimmed through the TV’s settings, which will come in handy if you install the TV in a bedroom. Assembly is a breeze and the included V-shaped feet keep the set sturdy.

Resolution

One of the standout features of the Vizio 40-inch D-Series is its full HD 1080p resolution, which delivers vibrant and detailed visuals. Whether you’re watching movies, playing video games, or browsing the web, you’ll be able to enjoy crisp and clear images with stunning clarity. The Vizio D Series has decent black uniformity. The screen is a bit cloudy throughout, and it’s a bit patchy, but it’s not very noticeable with regular content.

Smart functionally

The smart functionality of this TV allows you to access a wide range of streaming services and apps, such as Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube, directly from the TV’s interface. This eliminates the need for extra devices and provides a convenient and seamless entertainment experience.

Ports

In terms of connectivity options, the Vizio 40-inch D-Series offers multiple HDMI ports, USB ports, and built-in Wi-Fi, giving you plenty of options for connecting your favorite devices. Whether you want to connect a gaming console, Blu-ray player, or external sound system, this TV has you covered.

SmartCast OS

The Vizio D-Series runs on Vizio’s SmartCast platform. Most affordable TV brands use a third-party platform like Roku or Google TV, though Vizio sticks to its native software. This year SmartCast added more local app support, so you’ll find popular services like Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, Hulu, Peacock and Apple TV. You get the best Netflix shows and best HBO Max shows, too. SmartCast also has Google Chromecast and Apple AirPlay built-in, so you can easily cast content from your smartphone to the TV. If you can enjoy it on your handset, you can get it on your Vizio TV through Chromecast and AirPlay.

Audio

The audio quality of the Vizio 40-inch D-Series is also impressive, thanks to its built-in speakers that deliver clear and immersive sound. However, if you prefer a more cinematic audio experience, you can easily connect external speakers or a soundbar to enhance your viewing experience.

Gaming

With a lag time of just 14.9 seconds, you can expect a responsive gaming experience from the Vizio D-Series TV. It even supports a dedicated Game Mode with low latency settings. This TV has a basic 60Hz refresh rate, but surprisingly, it supports FreeSync variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. Due to the low native refresh rate, the VRR range is narrow, so it’s not very effective unless your console or PC can maintain a frame rate close to 60Hz.

Remote

A basic IR remote that includes shortcuts for Netflix, Prime Video, Disney Plus, Crackle, and other services in addition to Vizio’s WatchFree service is included with the TV. Although voice search is not a built-in feature of the remote, you can download the SmartCast app if you desire it.

Good decision to purchase this TV

I purchased this VIZIO – 40″ Class D-Series LED Full HD SmartCast TV (Model:D40F-G9SKU) two days ago and it was delivered yesterday by a very careful young man. The TV was easy to set up via HDMI cables to my Xfinity cable box and even connected an old Toshiba VCR/DVD combo player via HDMI as well. It took a few times to get the wifi to connect and after it did and after it updated the software, everything is working just fine. I adjusted the picture (color, tint, etc.) and the picture is fabulous. I am thrilled with this TV. I bought it to replace an 11 year old HD Vizio TV which was still working very well but wanted the latest and greatest tv. I will donate the old Vizio to the AmVets. I am now considering purchasing a 2.1 Vizio sound bar for this tv since it’s on sale and would love to have one. I highly recommend this tv.

Which is better?

From the Vizio D3 Series 2021, the Vizio V5 Series 2021 represents a major improvement. A 4k TV with significantly improved black uniformity, support for HDR (although it doesn’t offer much), and a quicker smart interface is the V5. Up to 85 inches in size, the V5 series is also offered in even greater proportions. The Vizio D3 Series 2021 and the Hisense A6G employ many panel technologies, each of which has advantages and disadvantages.

The Hisense is a superior option because it is a little brighter and has better viewing angles for a room with a wide seating arrangement. Due to its superior black uniformity and contrast, the Vizio is a better option for watching movies in a darkened room. The Hisense is a better option if you want to enjoy the newest formats, while the Vizio is constrained to a 1080p resolution in most sizes and doesn’t support HDR.

Take away

Overall, the Vizio 40-inch D-Series full HD 1080p Smart TV is a solid choice for those looking for a high-quality TV that offers great picture quality, smart functionality, and versatility in terms of connectivity options. Whether you’re a movie enthusiast, a gamer, or simply love streaming your favorite shows, this TV will provide an enjoyable and immersive viewing experience.
