Insignia NS-50F301NA22 50-inch TV 4K Fire TV Edition review

Design and built

It has a very straightforward, minimalist appearance that is only set apart by a small and a gray Insignia logo in the centre of the bottom bezel. To add stability and accommodate extras like ports and built-in speakers, the TV’s bottom half stretches up to 3.3 inches. Although you can place it on the wall as well, it is supported by a pair of simple, flat feet.

Ports

Three HDMI ports, a USB port, and a 3mm headphone jack are all located at the back of the TV, to the left. The port variety is excellent. An Ethernet port, RCA composite video inputs, an optical audio output, and a down-facing antenna/cable connector are all located a bit further inward. Three HDMI connections may not seem like much for a modern TV, but we didn’t expect anything less at this price point.

Resolution

With its 4K Ultra HD quality, the 50-inch screen presents amazing visuals that are full of fine details, rich colors, and lifelike images. The picture quality is always compelling and engaging, whether you’re viewing movies, TV shows, or playing games.

Brightness

When you switch to “Game” mode, there is a very little drop in peak brightness, but it is barely perceptible. The Contrast setting in “Game” mode is set to “85.” The brightness is returned to the level of the movie when it is increased to 90. Bright highlights and light flashes don’t stand out at all, however the majority of the content seems adequate.

Fire TV

The integration of Fire TV offers a wide array of streaming services at your fingertips, including popular platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, and more. Navigating through your favorite apps and content is effortless, thanks to the intuitive interface. The included remote control, equipped with Alexa voice control, allows for convenient hands-free operation, enabling you to search for content, control smart home devices, and perform various tasks with just your voice.

How to setup Fire TV & use it?

You must first select either Basic or Full in order to set up your Fire TV. Basic doesn’t need an Amazon account, but it only offers five applications and live TV through an antenna. All the features you’ll need from the smart OS, including Alexa, are available after completing setup, which takes an Amazon connection.

There is no hands-free activation on this TV, so you must push the microphone button on the remote to start Alexa. You can use Alexa to start apps, navigate to specific films, or switch inputs much more quickly than you could by using the menu system. In response to a request, it also turned on my holiday lights thanks to its smart home integration.

Audio

While the built-in speakers offer decent sound quality, connecting external speakers or a soundbar is recommended for a truly immersive audio experience. This will enhance your overall viewing pleasure, especially when watching action-packed movies or playing games that require dynamic audio. Though it only supports Dolby Audio, not Dolby Atmos, it delivered a much wider sound.

Smart Voice assistant

You can as well use Amazon Alexa voice control by pressing and holding the voice assistant button on the remote and speaking into the microphone. Talking of the remote, the included remote takes its cues from Amazon’s Fire TV streamers, sharing a similarly narrow, rectangular black wand shape with a circular navigation pad near the top.

Insignia NS-50F301NA22 Setup

Setting up the Insignia 50-inch TV is a breeze, with simple instructions and prompts guiding you through the process. The TV provides multiple connectivity options, such as HDMI and USB ports, making it effortless to connect your gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, and other devices.

Insignia NS-50F301NA22 50-inch TV 4K Fire TV Edition Customer review

What a surprise!

I got this television for a screaming deal during Black Friday and the picture quality easily outshines my previous $1200 LCD. I upgraded my Netflix subscription to take full advantage of the 4K technology, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. I was concerned that the 60 Hz refresh rate wouldn’t do the 4K justice, but I think it actually helps cut down on that ‘soap opera’ look… which drives me batty. Since it’s a Fire TV, I can even view my Ring cameras placed around my property and monitor deliveries from the basement by using the voice remote and asking Alexa to “show me the front door.” Awesome sauce! A quick word of caution, be very careful transporting the television. Touching or squeezing the screen can cause real issues. Otherwise I give this bad boy two thumbs, WAY UP!

Which is better?

In comparison to the Insignia F30 Series 2022, the Insignia F50 QLED is substantially superior. Both in bright and dim environments, the F50 appears far better. The F50 has a substantially better contrast ratio, which makes blacks appear deeper, and it grows noticeably brighter, allowing it to tolerate more glare. The HDR content appears more bright and realistic because to the F50’s substantially wider color palette. Finally, the F50 has a faster response time and reduced motion blur behind moving objects, making it excellent for gaming.

Compared to the Insignia F30 Series 2022, the TCL 4 Series/S446 2021 performs marginally better. In a bright setting, the TCL can effectively combat additional glare thanks to its greatly increased brightness and marginally improved handling of reflections. The TCL can display chroma 4:4:4 accurately, which is necessary for legible text from a PC, and it has a faster response time for clearer motion when used as a gaming monitor. It is also superior for usage as a PC monitor.

End notes

Overall, the Insignia 50-inch TV 4K Fire TV Edition surpasses expectations with its remarkable display quality, seamless integration of Fire TV, and user-friendly interface. Whether you’re streaming content, gaming, or simply enjoying your favorite shows, this TV delivers an outstanding entertainment experience that rivals more expensive options on the market.
