Build & design

It’s a matt finished plastic photo frame. The display is surrounded by boxy bezels, angled slightly to match the style of traditional frames.

Mount

It’s both desk and wall mountable. There’s an included stand for desk/table mounting, and there’s a hidden wall-mounting frame behind a slide-off panel. A third option is to attach it to a VESA 75 mount — the wall mount is compatible.

Remote

The frame comes with a remote control that you can utilize to change the picture or access the settings menu. It fits nicely in your hand and the buttons are soft and responsive. It’s square, and the button layout is absolutely symmetrical. Nixplay has added a magnet to the remote so you can keep the remote on the back of the display for safekeeping.

Display – Nixplay 15-inch smart digital photo frame

With 15-inch display, the frame automatically adjusts to portrait or landscape positioning. It maintains 16:9 aspect ratio. This photo frame uses YouTube-style “frosted” color-matched edges for anything that doesn’t fill the full width of the frame.  The high-quality screen in the picture frame does a great job of showcasing the photos and videos. You can apply different filters to the screen to create a different aesthetic.

Resolution

The display on the Nixplay Original W15A is a 15-inch, 720p high-definition screen. While it’s not full HD quality, it displayed our high-resolution, high-quality pictures extremely well. The colors were bright, rich, and deep, and whites and blacks are about as true as you can expect from a device in this class.

Smart sensor Hu-motion

When the frame detects no motion for a set period of time, it goes to sleep until motion is detected again. It’s a pedestrian feature, but worth noting that it’s there.

AI sensor

There’s also an activity sensor that turns the frame on and off automatically, which is great for forgetful users or those keen not to waste energy.

Photo share

You can also upload directly from your computer to the Nixplay website or sync with images you’ve already posted on social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram and cloud-storage services like Dropbox. You can store photos in Nixplay cloud store.

Nixplay 15-inch smart digital photo frame with WiFi (W15F) – Black customer review

The quality of the pictures

The quality of the pictures is pretty good. It is not super HD, but still looks pretty good and no real complaints. The frame itself is very basic and generic looking but not **** in anyway. Just a very simple frame which accents to pictures. Our past frame had touch control which was a lot nicer than a remote. Figuring out the remote definitely takes a little bit of time as it is not super intuitive. Our complaint is that even with adding the plus service, you cannot edit photos on a computer that you upload. Do you have the ability to upload them and that is all from a computer or web application. If you have family members that would like to upload photos for other peoples frames, they have to use a smart phone and the application that runs there. It just doesn’t seem technologically correct that their entire web application and uploading process does not allow any type of modification to the picture. We have been uploading photos for Christmas, but we may end up sending it all back because of the difficulty for others to send photos from my computer that don’t have smart phones to do all the editing. Unfortunately older people‘s eyes and fingers don’t work as well on a tiny phone to do all of this work. Their support and customer service contact has been great, and they are very responsive. The only problem is the responses tell you that editing from anything other than a phone is not possible.
