In the U.S, the bulk of cable providers are slowly implementing DOCSIS 3.1 technology. It provides you a chance to travel past the speed of the Gigabit and attain a maximum speed of 10Gbps downstream and 1Gbps capacity for upstream. However, the Netgear CM1000 transfer rate is restricted to 1Gbps by the Gigabit Ethernet port.
The Netgear CM100 is an optimized step within the right direction to urge high-speed internet speed and stable performance. Some users think that it’s not compact because the SB8200 by Arris because it lacks another Ethernet port. However, it’s a chic modem. it’s a future-proof modem considering the 1 Gbps data plans and therefore the price of the modem.

Networking
Netgear Company releases the CM1000 before SB8200. However, the CM1000 is compatible with cable providers like Comcast and Cox. it’s easier to know that if you employ this modem at full potential, you would like to see together with your ISP before buying any modem. you’ll contact them to ascertain if the modem is supported and whether or not you’ll take enjoy the very best internet speed available.
For instance, if you propose to possess data of 1Gbps, you’ll see a speed of 950 Mbps on the average . However, as we said before, you not expect anything above 950 Mbps speed thanks to the Ethernet port bottleneck. this will disappoint many users who hope for the very best speed performance from the DOCSIS 3.1 device. However, if the CM1000 takes enjoy new technologies, it’s still a modem with 1 Gbps download speed.
Design
Netgear CM1000 is somewhat similar in design with CM700, the predecessor of this device. It features a polyhedron-shaped case, which has soft corners. The device features a black matte finish that doesn’t retain fingerprints. However, compared to Arris that creates it difficult to differentiate between its cable modems, a couple of changes within the CM1000 make may be a little attractive than CM700.
As you see, the case is roofed completely by small triangular orifices. The CM1000 may be a bit taller than CM700. the size of C1000 are 8.8 x 5.4 x 5.9 inches. The stand is more solid and there are LED indicators on the front side there’s a narrow piece of metal on the front side of the Netgear CM1000. you’ll see an array of LED lights that show different statuses.
For instance, the green light indicates that the modem is powered on. However, it if is red, then it indicates overheating. The LED light is additionally liable for downstream. One downstream channel is locked if it’s solid amber in color. On the opposite hand, if it’s solid green, then, it means locking of multiple channels. If the LED blinks green, the modem scans for a downstream channel.
The LED likewise shows the status of the web . The solid green means the modem is online and therefore the blinking green indicates the synchronization of the modem with the CMTS. Moreover, the LED shows the Ethernet status. Again, the solid green means the Ethernet port is connected at 1000 Mbps. In contrast, the amber color shows a connection at 10/100 Mbps.
On the backside of the C1000 modem, there’s the push button , which you’ll use to revive the modem to default factory settings. If you would like , you’ll press and hold this button for above 5 to 7 seconds or until all LEDs blink.
On the rear panel, you’ll see 1 Gigabit Ethernet port (LAN), an influence ON-OFF button, a Coaxial Connector for Cable, and an influence Adapter input. On the device’s bottom, you’ll see a label that shows important information about the modem. as an example , the MAC address, the supported DOCSIS, and therefore the Serial Number. Overall, the planning of the Netgear CM1000 is elegant and attractive.
Netgear Cable Modem CM1000 Hardware review
The Netgear CM1000 is powered by the Broadcom BCM3390 CPU, which is backed with 256 MB of RAM and 128 MB of non-volatile storage . just like the Arris, which is that the main competitor of Netgear CM1000, it’s done an equivalent thing and written 5 Gbps in bold letters. So, what does this mean? It means you can’t get quite 1 Gbps speed out of the port.
Both CM1000 and CM700 address an equivalent audience – i.e. those that afford and sleep in areas where IPS delivers download speeds of up to 1 Gbps. this suggests the CM1000 may be a good upgrade over the Netgear CM700. it’s because the corporate wanted to become an early adopter of the DOCSIS 3.1 technology. The Broadcom CPU is what accelerates the modem to realize an interesting 1 Gbps speed.
Installation
Once you’ve got your modem activated, you’ll access the UI web interface for the management and monitoring of the modem and therefore the internet connection. Use an internet browser, type https://192.168.100.1. you’ll enter the UI and it’ll ask you for the username and password. you’ll enter admin because the username and therefore the password.
If you’re there, you’ll see that there are 2 main sections within the UI, which are basic and Advance. the essential section features a home and cable connection, which displays the beginning value, the startup process, and acquire the downstream channel. It also shows connectivity state, IP and security provisioning mode, boot state, the downstream bonded channels, also because the upstream bonded channels.
Netgear Cable Modem CM1000 customer Review
Buy this if you can utilize the 3.1 DOCSIS speed
Bought this for Comcast and it was very easy to setup. Just plug it in and follow the directions to activate it through Comcast’s portal. Didn’t have to talk to anyone from Comcast. I’m currently paying $70/month and I didn’t want to pay the extra $10 rental fee. I sold my soul and locked in that price for 3 years.
This modem and a good ac1900 router will pay for themselves after 1.8 years for me. The throughput on the modem is great, I’m getting the most out of my internet speed. I posted screen shots of a few speed tests. Since this is the only DOCSIS 3.1 modem on the market, at the time of writing this review, it is quite expensive.
Luckily there was a promotion with VISA checkout and I had some rewards to use, this came down to a decent price. Because of the price, I wouldn’t recommend this modem if you’re internet speed isn’t over 200-300mbs down. You may get incremental increases, but it wouldn’t justify paying so much more for this modem compared to a good 3.0 DOCSIS modem.
